Budget Roman Chair Setup for CAP and VEVOR Style Benches
VEVOR's budget benches share a layout: a light steel frame with a diagonal post, a hip pad that moves on a pin, and foam ankle rollers near the floor. CAP Barbell's Hyperextension/Ab Bench has a diagonal hyperextension post. Neither maker states an angle. The CAP Strength Roman Chair holds your legs level, the vertical 90-degree kind, and the program is not written for it. The 45 vs 90 guide shows the difference.

VEVOR sells several frame types, so match the model number on your box to the maker's page. The maker's maximum user weight has to cover your body weight plus the plate you hold in Stage 4, which starts at 10 lb and goes up 5 lb at a time. The budget bench guide covers buying one.
Pad height
The top edge of the pad sits just below your hip crease, where your thighs meet your pelvis. Your hips rest on the pad, so your back can round on the way down and straighten on the way up. Too high and the pad presses into your stomach; too low and you slide forward. Change it with nobody on the bench and seat the pin fully.
Near the short end of VEVOR's ranges, check that the lowest setting keeps the pad off your stomach; near the tall end, that the highest reaches your hip crease. CAP lists no range, so test both ends inside the return window. VEVOR's copy says the SJ1015 angle adjusts; if yours does, set it to a 45-degree diagonal and check that it locks.

Ankle rollers and foot plate
No roller adjustment is listed, so the pad does the fitting. Feet go flat on the plate, with the rollers snug against the back of your lower calves, just above the heel. If your feet go numb during a hold, stop and recheck the setup.
Wobble check
- Every foot touches the floor, and the frame does not rock when you push it.
- Every pin and knob is fully seated. Pull on each one.
- Frame bolts are tight, and tight again after the first week.
- On a folding frame, the fold lock is closed and stays closed when you press on the pad.
- A slow body-weight hold at the top, hands on the handles, moves nothing. If the frame flexes, it will flex more with a plate.
First session
Once you have checked from the side that the pad sits on a 45-degree diagonal, start Stage 1: 3 holds of 15 seconds at the top, with 60 seconds of rest. Hips on the pad, arms crossed on your chest, hold still leaning slightly forward from the hips, neck neutral, no bouncing. If you start in the app on the bench, its setup questions may set your first session at 10, 15 or 20 seconds a hold. The first-week guide covers the morning log, and the progression guide covers all four stages.
If pain shows up in your legs, stop the extension work, do not add load, and read the red flags.
Low Back Pain Coach sets each next session from your pain log the morning after.

The app
I built Low Back Pain Coach to run this program: it reads your pain logs, writes the next session, and a voice counts the holds, reps and rest. A notebook can run the same rules if you would rather keep the decisions on paper.
The program on one page
The printable program card has the four stages, the next-morning rule, and the stop signs on one sheet.
If you want an email when the program or the app changes, leave your address. A few emails a year at most, and a reply to any of them takes you off the list.
